It’s a blockbuster. The Kerala Story has arrived and pretty much emerged as yet another huge success when it comes to a small film making a big impact at the box office. This had happened with The Kashmir Files last year and now it’s the turn of The Kerala Story to rake in big bucks.
While the weekend by itself was extraordinary, what made the film stand out is the Monday number, which is in excess of Rs. 10 crores. The best and the biggest of the films struggle to have a Monday bigger than that of Friday (unless it’s a holiday) and here on a regular working day and without any support whatsoever of a holiday or a festival, the Adah Sharma starrer has collected a huge Rs. 10.07 crores. Even as a stand-alone number, this is brilliant but what makes it all the more noteworthy is that Friday was Rs. 8.03 crores and Monday is even bigger, which means the film had been accepted by the audiences, and how.
The Sudipto Sen-directed film has now reached Rs. 45.72 crores and as of now, one can’t put a number to where exactly will it go. It’s a given that the film will have a lifetime of over Rs. 150 crores but then with an open month ahead, it can eventually go anywhere.
This one is a surprise blockbuster of the year.
