Rashi Mal Opens Up on Her Dual-Language Songs, Indie Music

A Life in Two Passions

Rashi Mal whom many recognize from Helicopter Eela, Brahmastra: Part One Shiva, Boygiri, and Hindmata is not just an actor. She’s also deeply invested in music. Her songs often arise from personal experiences, poured into lyrics and melodies she crafts herself.

Her most recent projects: “Stay” in English, and “Na Jaa” in Hindi. She says releasing the same song in both languages felt natural, because love itself is multifaceted. “Love can heal but also wound. ‘Stay’ leans toward hope; ‘Na Jaa’ carries longing,” she shares.

Emotion Meets Tech in Her Music Videos

Rashi and her team played with the idea of a human AI connection. Each video uses the same protagonist and AI, but shows contrasting emotional arcs one of fulfillment, the other of absence.
To underline this contrast visually, one is rendered in rich, vibrant hues, while the other in stark black-and-white. Shot entirely via green-screen and AI tools, Rashi says her actor’s instincts were vital to bring the feelings across despite the tech-heavy backdrop.

Why She Chooses the Independent Route

For Rashi, being an indie musician is no cakewalk. But it offers freedom. “Better to do it solo than compromise your voice. If you meet people who believe in you, amazing. If not, still do your own thing. Consistency and patience always win,” she says.

She sees the language differences as more than translation they alter the song’s emotional tone. “Saying ‘I love you’ in English feels different from ‘Main tumse pyaar karti hoon.’ The latter in Hindi carries deeper weight.”

Looking Ahead: Dream Collaborations & Evolution

Though Rashi’s musical style continues to evolve, her dream collaborator list is clear: A.R. Rahman, Arijit Singh, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5. And above all, she hopes to keep her creative identity intact as she grows.
